The other day I went to my friend´s house and notice that the kitchen door was missing. I asked my friend and he mentioned his dad was painting it. Then we went to play some plat station and when I went down again to the kitchen to drink some water the door was already there. I asked how this could be possible if I didn’t hear any noise of screwing the door electrically. My friend told me that for certain unknown reason Lift Off Hinges where installed in all the house.
He said that it was convenient for him went he went out and needed to quietly close the door. Lift Off Hinges allow him to oil the hinges properly so they don’t make any sound. I found it funny.
I am very curious so I went online to wonder why people would use Lift Off Hinges. It seems that in many countries by law toilet doors need to be removed from outside in case of emergencies .
It seems many people get trapped in toilets when the handle breaks. This could become a potentially risky situation specially for the elderly.
In Ipswich a woman was trapped in a toilet for 7 seven days. The neighbour could see the toilet light on all the time but didn’t do anything. Another neighbour noticed that the dog was barking in a very particular way. She was found alive but doctors say she could have died for dehydration.
In the UK a 55 earl old man was trapped in a bathroom for 4 days. He only had tap water that ht used to keep hydrated and warm. A cleaner found him and took him out of the horrible situation. He had no mobile phone or food with him but he managed to survive.
I also found a case of a 94 years old in the USA who felt in the toilet and was rescued after several days. I guess in all this situations they could have just pushed the door to remove it and save themselves or at least someone from the outside could have gotten inside immediately in case of emergency.
People with epilepsy need to be helped as soon as possible and if the door of the toilet is locked then how can you get there in time? I guess using Lift Off Hinges.
So I guess accidents do happen and people´s lives can be saved by a hinge. Sound ridiculous but true. My parents aren’t that old yet but I guess when they are I am going to have to install all this safety measure to check on them when they can’t take care of themselves anymore.
I told my friend about the stories I found online and he mentioned that the previous owners of the house were a couple of elderly. So It made sense
